Cell line name | L6C5 |
Accession number | ICLC AL00001 |
Brief description | Species: rat; Tissue: skeletal muscle |
Description | Species: rat newborn; Tissue: skeletal muscle; Derived from: L6 cell line (ATCC CRL 1458) |
Depositor | Dr S. Adamo, Medical Istology Embriology Dept, University La Sapienza, Rome, Italy |
Reference paper | Am J Physiol 1993;265:C113-C121 - DOI: 10.1152/ajpcell.1993.265.1.C113 - PMID: 8393277 |
Morphology and growth | continuous culture, grown as monolayer, morphology myoblast |
Culture conditions | DMEM + 10% FBS + 2mM L-Glutamine; split 1:5-1:10 using trypsin/EDTA; seed at 2-4 x 10^4 cells/cm2; 37C, 5% CO2 |
Properties | Myogenic, vasopressin responsive. Differentiation is induced by reduction of serum, IGF-1, vasopressin (AVP). AVP stimulates PLC, PLD, cAMP-phosphodiesterase. Skeletal muscle myosin, creatine kinase, myogenin, vasopressin receptor V1a, IGF-1 receptor, nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunits. |
Distribution | Cell line available for distribution. For non-commercial investigative use only |
Hazard | |
Species validation | Validated by isoenzymes: confirmed as rat with MD, NP |
Passage number | 10 |
Freezing medium | Culture medium + 50% FBS + 10% DMSO |

Comments | L6C5 fuse in culture to form multinucleated myotubes. The myogenic potential is lost if cells are allowed to become confluent. |
